I'm about a month away from jumping into serious discussions with my "official" creative consultant on the subject of WARBRIDE.

While I have a basic idea of what the story needs to cover and where it needs to go, All the fun little details are still up for grabs.

One thing that will be discussed first will be the mood set by the opening scene. This one can and will be handled differently than FIFTHWIND, since the world and some of the characters are already introduced.

So, in general terms, what kind of opening do you like from the list below:

1) Mysterious, WTF is happening kinda thing
2) Ease in with a setting description.
3) Dialog
4) Dive into the action
5) Start out focused on a known character
6) Start out focused on an unknown person (good or bad)
7) Foreshadowed event
8 ) Other

What gets you into a story quick if you already know the setting and characters (some of them)?

I like 5 (known character), possibly in conjunction with 1, 3, or 4. #2 is probably the best way to get me to put down a book.

Me too. Very Happy

That's where I'm leaning. Though nothing's decided yet.

It depends on the tone of the book. I used to have a forshadowing intro for Morphogenesis, but I'm more and more likely to replace it with a comedic one, to suit the book. I'll keep the foreshadowing one for Morphology, though, as it's more suitable to the plot.

Personally I always favour #4, and shy well away from #2.
