Ok, first of all, let me say this. I'm gonna copy and past from my "drunken rants blog", (Sorry, I've promsied myself never to give the adress out except to really good friends). This is something that's been bothering me for some time, but I've only put it into words now, when I combined a few beers and a glass of tequila with the movie "Romancing the Stone". So, anyway, let's just put it like this; read my rant, and tell me your own thoughts on the situation I imagine when I write this.

(Oh, yeah, this isn't a cheap sellout for my blog, this is something that's truly been intriguing me for very long, and I don't really know why.)

Quote from Loxley's Drunk Rants:
Quote:
Yo,

Guess what? After four beer and a glass of tequila, I'm drunk again.

Today, my adventurous side is going to rant, so I hope y'all are carrying the spirit of the adventurer. Now, y'all know the film "Romancing the Stone", with Michael Douglas, eh? Well, figured as much. That just happens to be my favorite movie. Now, why is that so? Well, 'cause seriously, I recognize myself in Michael Douglas' character, Jack T. Colton. Not as a person (though I like to become an adventurer, as I'm sure y'all already know.) Beside the point that is.

Now.. Jack lives in Colombia. He's into shortcuts, and lives on the edge of civilization, in the middle of the jungle, living off his own wits, with a shotgun, machete and cool hat to call his own. The rest is trashed in the middle of the movie. Ok, in the start that is. (I'm drunk, don't expect me to write right.) Anywho... The issue of my rant today is what I feel when I see Jack. No, I don't feel *anything special* against Jack, if I may put it like that and still be respectful against a certain group of people.

No... What I feel is an attraction to his lifestyle - living in the edge of civilization, adventuring, hunting, living off oneself, and not off shops. That sort of stuff. I mean, I want to, one day, find myself face to face with a person I've never met before, in the middle of the Colombian jungles, a person I can trust reasonably much, and I want to find myself by a campfire with said person, sharing a bottle of tequila with him or her, gaining a new, adventurous friendship. Or, in an inn in the Andes, with other people I don't know.

The key issue being; people I don't know but want to get to know (people who share my interest in adventure and tequila, and who are interesting) and a near-edge-of-civilization-place to meet them in... I don't know if it's my adventurous spirit that tells me that, or just the fact I'm drunk, but seriously? I'd abandon the city-part of my life, for that kind of a life style. Without a second thought. That is, in essence, why I first decided I wanted to become an adventurer.

I can't really explain it, especially not when drunk, but there is magic in such a meeting. I mean, when you meet someone else, in the middle of nowhere, there has to be a direct connection - I mean, there is no opportunity to be socially awkward in such a situation - you cannot say, "Sorry, I don't talk to strangers", because even you will be happy to meet someone else, as adventurous as yourself, in that situation.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, I know. But I'm just spouting thoughts popping up in my head when I'm drunk (which is right now). Let me know what you think.

Well, as I said, let me know what y'all think. Don't take this too seriously, but, meh, if you feel like it, give me your thoughts on said adventurous subject. I've said before, I've been missing something in me good ol' life, and doing some soul searching. I'm being intrigued by this situation, and, meh, it's part of the whole "soul searching" thingie.

Anyway, I'm off to watch the end of the movie. Toodles. Razz

Man, I really wrote that last night. I really ought to stop making posts when I've drunk alcohol. Anyways, I like the situation imagined. Ending up in the edge of civilization, meeting new people, that sort of stuff. It's a cool lifestyle, ain't it?

It all sounds great. Smile

Everything except the part about Columbia. One of my worst experiences is about a time that I was "hiking" through those jungles. It's a terrible tale that involves a plane crash... and a knife attack. Completely true... but I'm not in the mood to share it again.

No prob, dude. Hey, Colombia is a beautiful country. Too bad it's been turned to shit by those rotten drug dealers, other criminals, terrorists, militia, madmen, crazy politicians, and genocidal military. Sigh. One day I'm going to have to kick their ass for that.
