I'm FAT. I need to do something about that.
So, I'll post my weight loss progress just like I would with a wordcount log.
I'm 6 feet and 236 pounds. My goal is to reach 185 lbs in 90 days. That's a 51 lb loss (24 kg). That will require diet, exercise, and fundamental "life habit" changes.
Now, before anyone goes off trying to say that losing that much weight is unhealthy, I'd like to make two important points.
1) Every day that I remain overweight is MORE UNHEALTHY than a concentrated diet to end this madness.
2) I've done this before. Five years ago, I lost 100 pounds in 6 months. Half of that has slowly crept back onto my bones... time to do something about that.
So here's my starter info.
Starting Weight: 236
Current Weight: 236
Net loss to date: 0
Target: 185 (by Dec 1st)
I'll post about twice a week.
Ready... Set... Go! |

Good luck!
But the quicker you lose them, the quicker you gain them again afterwards, you know that right? Jo-jo dieting (sorry, don't know the correct spelling) is not healthy either.. |

First progress report sometime tomorrow. I'm doing VERY well, but it's always easy to take off a LOT at first since you're carrying around so much "disposable" weight anyway.
I'll probably lose 8-10 lbs the first week, but then it'll get harder.
As long as I can consistently kill 4 lbs a week, I'll reach my goal within the time limit. I love it when I get focused on something. I'm an unstoppable machine. |

First week is finished. I didn't do quite as well as I hoped, but I did plenty well enough to be on track for my goal.
Starting Weight: 236
Current Weight: 229.5
Net loss to date: 6.5
Target: 185 (by Dec 1st)
To hit my target, I'll only need to average 4lbs a week. I lost Six and a half pounds this week. _________________ ---Ken Kiser

Oops... I lost sight of my goal a hair this week. It's been 5 days since my last progress report, and my success waned a little.
Starting Weight: 236
Current Weight: 227
Net loss to date: 9
Target: 185 (by Dec 1st)
Oh well, at least I lost 2.5 lbs. in 5 days (It's better than gaining)
Next week I start writing MAGUS and I'll become "ultra-focused" on everything that is part of my routine. I'm still on track and still averaging the 4lbs per week I need to hit my goal. I'm just a little disappointed I didn't do better this week, because I KNOW I didn't try as hard as I could have. Let myself down. _________________ ---Ken Kiser

Keep it up FW. The key is not to binge loose. If you loose too much too quick, you'll have consequences later on.
Trust me. I lost a bunch of weight really fast and still dealing with the after effects. Still have the weight off though which is good _________________ -Nameless One

I'm headed in the right direction, but I need to step up the effort. 14 ponds so far ain't bad. Looks like I'll hit 15 or 16 pounds lost for my first 30 days effort.
14 down... 37 to go... _________________ ---Ken Kiser

Motivation is fine... weight is coming off even faster now that I'm combining a 500 calorie diet with some moderate exercise. _________________ ---Ken Kiser

Fiffy, Fiffy, Fiffy...little do you know, you can lose weight with a 3000 calorie diet and exercise...
Or at least keep your weight the same.
I do it.
But I'm also younger than you... so anyways....
GO FIFFY!!!!

Yeah, try doing that when you're 41 and you'll gain weight But thanks for the "Woot"... I need one now and then!
Oh, and 500 calories is a lot more than you think as long as you stay away from McDonalds. A can of tuna, three large salads, and a nice-sized bowl of beans is under 400. Or substitute 3oz of chicken with any combination of veggies you like (twice a day) for under 500. I top it all off with multivitamins. It's not like starving. It's just discipline. (One day a week, I go WILD and have about 1200)
Note of interest: Okinawans are generally considered the healthiest people on the planet and certainly have the longest lifespans.. and they live their entire 100+ years on less than 1000 calories a day (average is 800). Again, that is for their ENTIRE lives. Science has proven time and time again that highly restricted caloric intact lengthens life. (not under 500... that is just temporary to take off some pounds ) BTW, I used to live in Okinawa... beautiful place with wonderful people.
It takes a 3500 calorie deficit for every one pound lost. With a 500 calorie diet (which BTW is sustainable for about a year, healthily) I can achieve that deficit every day and a half. Which means I lose approximately 2 pounds every three days. Or about 4.5 a week.
Sure, I could achieve the same thing by whittling away calories with a higher exercise ratio (and I eventually intend to) but it's hard on the joints to do intense cardio when you're lugging around an extra 60-80 pounds. So, the weight (at least a good portion of it) has got to come off first before I start jumping around. I figure about another 20 lbs and I can up my caloric intact to 1000 and start a regimented exercise program. Once I hit my target weight, I can jump to a a permanent 1800 calorie diet as long as I keep a regular exercise habit.
For now, I'm laughing all the way to skinnyviille and the scale can kiss my ass! (**along with anyone else who wants to lecture me on how to lose a quarter pound a week (safely) and reach my goal by the time I'm fifty)
Bottom line: I'll lose 51 pounds in under three months... and you all are just jealous!
*** I do all this and write 900 words a day... the wonders never cease! _________________ ---Ken Kiser

See, I kinda have to admire you for this Fiffy! I got too much Italian I guess, because the thought of counting calories scares the crap out of me! (here's hoping the muscle never turns to fat, 150lbs of muscle looks fine, not in fat though!)
Cheers, stick to it! _________________ To run from misery’s thrall to where only the knife-edged thrill stands before the endless fall…

I'd give before and after pictures, but the before picture would crash your computer for good. _________________ ---Ken Kiser

M'dear, I work with a guy who's probably about 6'8 and somewhere around 400 pounds. I don't think you can crash my computer.
Can't speak for the others though. _________________ To run from misery’s thrall to where only the knife-edged thrill stands before the endless fall…

In case anyone was curious, I'm still on pace to hit my goal of losing 51 pounds by December 1st.
I'll weigh myself sometime this week and give a progress report. I'm probably somewhere around 30 lbs lost so far. _________________ ---Ken Kiser

Congratulations FW. Good job indeed. Its very difficult to keep something like this up, but if you keep the same dedication that you use for your writing, you're sure to hit your goal and then some _________________ -Nameless One
