This is the discussion thread for 1927. It's scheduled, for now, to be started in september the 12th. So, we'll talk about it here from now on, and not in world building. Also, this is the place to throw up your characters. And remember, the whole gang is childhood friends. Wink That'll make things more interesting.

Y'all know what weapons existed back then, I take it? If not, let me know, and I'll work out a list of 'em. No restrictions on what you want to use weaponwise, just use your common sense.

Also, preferably, let your character carry handguns, knives, brass knuckles, etc. - he can own heavier weapons also, but it's not like you walk around with a BAR on the open street unless you're going to whack someone, or unless you're suicidal and wanna get shot by the cops.

Also, three roles have been called and dibsed. Cool
Me - Trumpet player in the band
MadLarkin - Bartender
Morni-Ch@n - Owner of the nightclub. (Up to her to find a name for it since she owns it.) Wink

Other than that, let's roll and see some cool characters! I'll upload my own later when I have the time, and isn't suffering from hangover. Rolling Eyes

Could I get leader of terror squad. Like, the guys who scare the shit out of competition, not those who go around and set up for protection money. So, leader of a squad of hitmen, really.

Sure thing. Razz You're a hitman. Though just for the record - all the main characters (meaning - us.) are just skilled enough to be hitmen (if we want to.) I guess what I'm sayaing is I'm going to try and have our characters, from time to time, forced to murder some opponents, personally. Of course, there'll be plenty of work for your hitmen as well. Wink

But we'll see how things work out as we go along.

I still gotta work out a few scenarios, so in the start, I'm thinking we're going to have to just go on our guts when it comes to the jobs and story arcs that needs doing. In the beginning, it ought to be quite easy since our characters are grieving from a lost friend, killed by Capone's thugs. And we have to make time for a meeting in the chat room, I think, because the funeral should be one of those meetings where we all participate.

So, the 15th I'm going to post an out-of-character intro to the story, and then we should all try and make time for a meeting where we'll "play out" the funeral. So, date? I'd say the 15th if y'all are able to, but if not, give another date, and let's set a time. Razz

Anyone got an idea how that's going to work, by the way? Since we're doing the whole 1st Person writing, it might be a kink. As I see it, we could either write our "meeting" posts in 3rd person, or we could write them from one character's perspective. Give opinions, puh-leese, on what you think might work best, and also if you have other ideas. Razz

Edit: 15th's a monday, so I can post it in the friday, the 12th instead, and then we have the whole weekend to do the meeting post.

Alright. Here's my character for the game.

James "Jack Trigger" White

Jack, like the rest of the crew, grew up in Chicago, doing crime to keep food on the table, until their now deceased friend Jim Hornster took them in to work at his café, even though he risked by doing so to scare away his customers. From the get-go, Jack was a man who was devastatingly fast with a gun. Now, he's semi-retired, however, and works as the trumpet player in the band on the jazz club. He is a heavy drinker and a cynic, and even moreso since Hornster was killed by thugs of Al Capone's.

Jack is thirty-three years old, and has short-cut, grayish-brown hair. He speaks with a rough but bright voice, probably due to his heavy drinking, and has an Irish accent. He is always cool-headed, but can be brutal and merciless when he has to, and merciful when he feels like it.

Weapons of preference; .455 Webley revolver and FN 1910.

That's it. Oh, yeah, and one side-note. Jim Hornster is the guy who was killed, who was their father figure, mentor, whatever. He was the guy who pulled them out of a life as childhood pickpockets and criminals, and gave them jobs at his café. Al's thugs tried to force him to buy their alcohol, and become one of their speakeasies, but he refused, and so they whacked him in broad daylight. (More on that will come in the intro, methinks).

Great!! Very Happy The more the merrier...well, and bloodier! Also, I've got (what I think is) a badass intro all written up and ready! Razz

Another thing. Thewhole idea from the start was that there were supposed to be three different threads - one for those who want to play Feds, one for those who want to play gangsters, and one called "the Streets", where everything not happening in the nightclub or FBI headquarters takes place.

So, if anyone want to play Federales, let me know. It could turn out to be great and fun. You might even get to work side by side with one certain Mr. Elliot Ness. Wink

Otherwise, if nobody want to play Feds, we'll go with just two threads, the Nightclub (will be named as soon as Morni-Ch@n decides what her club will be called, *hint hint*), and the Streets, where everything not taking place in the nightclub, will take place.

Edit:
Also, a new idea popped up in my head.
I'm going to do news articles from time to time, in the threads (not sure which one yet, prolly the Streets), about what has happened in the world. Nothing long, just short ones. The first one will be about Jim Hornster's death, and will be part of the intro.

I'll post a character intro later, but for now, we'll call the club simply "Eros". Sound good?

Sounds about right to me. Though the name might build up the anticipation too much. Wink

Side-note. 1927 will kick off in the 12th of September now. Hope y'all can get a date together when to play, 'cause, the cemetary scene should be a joint post.

Ok.. Me going to sleep now.

I'm in for a joint post, college permitting.

My character:

Andrew "Cig" Brenton

Andrew's parents moved to Chicago when he was ten, but died of typhoid only two years later. Andrew quickly turned to crime in an effort to support himself and his younger brother. He was caught in the act of burglarizing a house and spent a week in jail to "teach him a lesson." When he was released, his brother was nowhere to be found. In his desperate search to find him he was befriended by Jim Hornster, who took him in and helped him search for his brother.
With Hornster's help, Andrew was able to work up from being an assistant cook at a diner to the head chef at one of the finest Chicago hotels. He continued to blame the Chicago police for his brother's disappearance, however, and was rumored to be involved in the killings of several policemen.

Andrew Brenton is twenty six years old with dark hair and a smooth, boyish face. He constantly smokes when not working (hence the nickname) but rarely drinks. Although he does not work there, he constantly frequents Hornster's nightclub. His off and on relation with the mob has made him a quick shot, and the loss of both his parents and his brother have made him a bitter and callous individual. The only person he has any real affection for is his surrogate father, Jim Hornster.

Weapon: Colt 1911

Alrighty. Smile

Also, just to clarify, Jim Hornster is dead now, and he owned a café, not a nightclub. No biggy, though. Wink

Walter "Penny" Ludwig

Age: 27

Walter was born on January 1st 1900 and his parents quickly started to call him the "century" baby, which was later shortened to "cent." After his friends heard him called "cent" they started to call him penny as a joke, and the name stuck. Penny found himself indebted to the mob after getting some money for his mothers doctor bills after she broke her leg. He was not new to the mob business, His uncle Albert on his mothers side was a mobster who was killed very heroically as the business goes.

His father left as soon as his mother told him she was in a mob family. She was already pregnant and had Walter about two months later. Twenty six years later he got fired from his factory job and he was forced to once again seek help from the mob so he could get a job to pay off his first mob favor. His connections to Albert got him a very nice job that he had to work for 3 months to pay off his debt, he was allowed to keep tips and he soon realized that the bar job payed better than his old factory job. Hes now working full time as the barkeep at Eros.

Just a fair reminder to y'all that the RP starts friday, as soon as I get up to post the intro. Those who want to participate should, if they haven't already, post their characters. Razz

Also, need to set a date sometime in the ensuing weekend, for the joint post.

Alrighty, folks. Tomorrow's the day. As soon as I wake up tomorrow, I'm going to start posting the intro to the RP. So, get your character sheets up and we can get on with the joint post as soon as everyone is ready, willing and with time.

Bah. Off to sleep now. Toodles.

Kerry Lee, 26 years old, owner of the 'Eros'.

Kerry's father was a rough, hard-drinking factory worker who earned extra money as a bouncer at some of the toughest clubs in Chicago. Her mother worked at a speak-easy as a hostess and occasional call-girl. Kerry was a club brat, running errands and helping out around her mother's place of employment, and learning management. When her uncle wills her a little money, she leaves her family and begins earning experience in the world of business, eventually ending up in a casual relationship with Hornster after she is hired to run his cafe.

Kerry is a glamorous woman who likes high fashion, intrigue, drama, and the darker sides of the underworld. She knows how to use a gun, but finds it enjoyable to play with her enemies whenever she can.

Alrighty, I've set the setting now. As y'all notice, this takes place in the Streets-section, at a cemetary called the Enfield cemetary. This is where Hornster is buried.

So, as soon as we're done at the cemetary, I'll start the Eros section, and we can play it from there as well.

Now, some things to remember;
1st Person writing style. Preferably with the gritty noir feeling of old hard-boiled detective stories.
You're free to do anything in the RP, even betray everyone and anyone, but -
- remember they're supposed to be childhood friends so betraying them might not be something anyone of the group will do.

Also, we should set a date, preferably this weekend, for a joint post, either at the cemetary or at Eros, where the group makes the decision on how to conquer the Chicago underworld. Wink

And anyone who's late and want to join up, feel free to do so. Razz

So, is everyone free this weekend? Lt's say then that the preliminary meeting scheduled for the joint post be some time on sunday. Gotta figure out the time zones before I decide on a time, but I'll edit it in here later. Razz

Alright. From the way I figure things, when you guys "over there" got an evening coming, I'm in the morning. Rolling Eyes So, let's set a time, and I'll figure out when to be online after that. Does around 19:30 Over-There time work for y'all? Wink

...man, timezones are a pain in the ass.

Umm, is that 7:30 PM? I'm in the US Central time zone, so that works out to be 0:30 AM GMT.

This might help.

Alrighty. Razz Just to clarify, I haven't planned any particular event for the funeral, which is where we will play today. So we'll just see where things end up. After the funeral, I'll create a second thread, "the Eros", which is the nightclub. From there, we can organize the crime syndicate and get everyone some jobs to deal with while I plot our first big story arc. (Mwahahahaha.)

That's the idea, at least, but we'll see how things fare.

Here's another character. This guy is an NPC, and an on and off narrator. He is the man who will narrate during all our joint posts. I got the idea, with some idea rolling with Underscore, from the TV-series the Black Donnellys. You'll probably recognize a lot, but give me some slack here, it's 03:00 AM over here. Razz

Anyways, as I said, he's the narrator. He is currently (in the future, timed after the events of this RP), imprisoned in Chicago and being interrogated on his involvement with the gang.

Joey "the Mouth" Costero, 26 years old

Joey the Mouth is the friend of the gang, who always seems to be there, but nobody seems to remember ever being there, when things happen. He's a friend of the group, coming from the fact he's usually hanging around at Eros, but often get in trouble for talking too much, and who usually tell grand tales that are far from what really has happened. He works as a delivery boy to Eros, and before that was a package boy at Hornster's café. Joey is imprisoned in Chicago by the FBI and being interrogated on his association with the so-called Four Corners Outfit, by Elliot Ness of the FBI. Unfortunately, Mr. Ness will find that Joey's story doesn't co-relate too well with the truth of events.

I'm only half-sure on how I will handle his narrating, for now, but I'll make it work.

Damn, that became a long post. Although to defend myself, I have to say, there's lots of spaces between the paragraphs to make it easier on the eyes. Now, I want to know what you all think about doing this for our joint posts? How do you like this way of doing it? (And what do you think of Joey the Mouth so far?) Mr. Green

Also, I'm creating "Eros" soon enough - or leave it to Mornara to create since it's her nightclub. Rolling Eyes We'll see. As I figure it, it hasn't opened yet - because we should totally have a premier opening. It's like being renovated right now or something.

Also... Each one of will have some time now to wander the Streets and "recruit" some people, and try and figure out whodunnit, that is, who murdered Jim. If anyone else want to join up, there's always an opportunity to do so, but this is the best one. So make up your character and go join in. I'll also post an invitation to anyone who's shown interest in the RP and not yet made a character. Razz

Well, thats all I have for now. Give opinions. Wink
