Keep numbers like that coming, and you hit your goal in no time
it's all about consistency. Find a rhythm and stick to it.
Nice job! _________________ ---Ken Kiser

Hey, how long is a chapter usually? It feels like I just finished one. (Woohoo, btw ) |

Chapters are finished when they conclude that portion of the story, silly.
They come in all lengths, but I'd say that the average is anywhere between 1500 and 4000 words
Congrats BTW

That's the one. Though that name really stinks. And I have a feeling that it won't fit the story at all. Oh well, I'll change it some time later, when I've got something better.
I think the chapter has 2115 words for the moment. (But I'm at work, so I'm not certain.. Just summed up the wordcounts I posted here.) And yes, it has concluded this portion of the story And I'm sure it will grow when I tackle it for the second time.
Yay, my first completed chapter! (Well, sort of complete) |

That's a HUGE accomplishment.
Now don't get caught up in the "Chapter One Blues" and edit this thing forever and never move forward.

I've already read it It is a really good article though, one I bet many (myself included) will find very helpful. And yeah, I've been there. Except I didn't even finish one chapter. I rewrote the same page (!) over and over.. That's useless. The thing never got finished. So now I plan on waiting until I've written through the whole thing until I rewrite anything. |

Watch out folks... we have a winner on our hands,
Keep writing and don't look back. You'll be done before you know it.
Good Luck. I'm glad to know you. _________________ ---Ken Kiser

Yay Elanor! Writing stuff is kind of fun, eh?
My recent counts: 324, 367, 349, 428, 732 (ha), 540. Plus a couple hundred on unrelated projects.
I'll let you all know when I hit 40,000 _________________ May Ardi defend you and light your way,

Kind of fun, agreed!
447 today.
I started the outlining yesterday! And though it doesn't count, and I should have been writing the story as well as the outline, I wrote almost 800 words. At least it was something useful.
Oh, and WishingStar, you're doing good! |

Chapter 1 completed at 3580 words. Writing from Monday was 509, 0, 1023, 885 words, and I'm 16% through my 15,000 word monthly challenge.
So far, so good. And today was a shitty writing day, the boy was unsettled and I had a lingering headache all day. But it worked out in the end, I got a nice hour to myself and my characters said some things to each other that I wasn't expecting.
Still, so much more to go. That's the problem with new projects. Inspiration high, but the road is long...with many a winding turn...that leads us to who knows where...(thank you the Hollies).

5000 words today. Sadly, only 700 of that was book related. The rest was a character exploration that really grabbed ahold of me. _________________ The owl cried outside as I slept, dreaming of my own death.

Another 1000+ words tonight! Whatever is going on in my head right now, it's good!
That makes a cumulative 6000+ words in less than 24 hours! One of today's pieces will be posted in the Casual Lab. _________________ The owl cried outside as I slept, dreaming of my own death.

I want to write more, but then I'm thinking "Why not save it until later?" So I think I'll stop here. But I can always write other stuff, can't I? |

Fun = good I'm about to maul my antagonist with a desperate and starving animal. I would have broken 5000 words, but my son woke up and is now sitting in my lap. Typing veery slowly.
What's your fun moment in writing today?

It's great when the writing comes easy like that
I've had a bad day today as the small man didn't sleep much. I had the day off yesterday, but that means now I can't skip on today's wordcount. 350 words before bed or else. I don't think they are going to be very inspired words!
*Edit* Well I ended up with 612 words, which isn't bad for 40 mins writing. Nothing really exciting, just the end of a scene and the setup for a later scene. And now, to bed!

Hey, Wishing and Elanor, are your projects defined enough to start threads for them? It's a valuable way to get feedback and ask questions. And with the steady progress we're seeing from both of you, I'd like to get you settled in threads! _________________ The owl cried outside as I slept, dreaming of my own death.

Unfortunately, no, because I've got maybe two or three more days on this one before I run out of plot. (I know I said that once before, but it's much closer to true this time.) Then I'm going to take a day or two to get a good synopsis down for my next project, since I still need to figure out what happens in which order in that pesky place between the beginning and the end. That one should be longer, though, not to mention actually making sense, and I fully intend to make a thread for it once I start it. 358 today, only 300 on the outline yesterday (writing = not so fun then.. but at least I managed something.)
Defined? Uhm, well... Not quite. But I'm working on it. I think I'll get the thread running when I'm done with the outline, and know a bit more about the story myself. And yeah, I'll be asking for help soon enough. You'll wish you hadn't asked. |
